Its name comes from “water” and “shiatsu.” To practice this massage, one must be submerged in a shallow pool of heated water. After a brief breathing preparation, one surrenders to the arms of the practitioner who makes the patient’s body flow and float at the water’s surface, alternating pressure and stretching at key points of the body with gentle movements. Watsu massage increases muscle mobility, joints feel lighter, tension and pain disappear, but above all, the water practice has profound psychological and relaxation effects.
