On the medical side, the Atlantic Terme Natural Spa & Hotel adheres to the trademark Abano in Salute Thermalcare®, a new natural therapy without side effects approved by the Italian National Health Agency, a result of the development of a historic tradition (thermal baths and clay) that, after strenuous clinical research, has gained scientific recognition worldwide.

The mature mud or fango, characterised by the presence of specific microalgae is distributed uniformly on the skin to the area to be treated at a temperature of approx. 40°C. On the local level there is an intense vasodilatation and a progressive relaxation of the muscles. At the general level the thermal stress works by freeing hormones, cortisol and endorphins with an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. The short term effects, present at the end of the therapy cycle are analgesic, muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory with a consequent stimulation and improvement of the joints and surrounding structures. The long term effects, during the course of months after the treatment pertain to the prevention of recurrence and slowing of the progression of degenerative joint ailments such as arthritis.
